Experience Haggis the right way and (re)discover the real taste of Scotland
With staycations set to be the focus this summer, a new culture and foodie experience is set to launch giving Scots the opportunity to rediscover our national dish. Taking place on a working sheep farm near Glasgow, small groups will be shown how to make haggis from scratch, and then savour its unique flavours with traditional trimmings.
If you’ve not tasted haggis before or are interested in discovering more about Scotland’s national dish, the Haggis Experience is taking haggis tasting to a new level.
Between 17 July and 16th September – every Wednesday and Saturday – the Haggis Experience will be offering regular haggis making and tasting sessions on a working sheep farm in Stirlingshire. Guests will be able to discover the origins, myths, ingredients and how to make the delicious dish. Then taste a traditional haggis and/or vegetarian haggis with fellow guests (vegan and gluten free haggis options are also available on request).
Lee Rooney, co-founder of The Haggis Experience notes,
“Haggis is available to buy around Britain and online – especially in January – but it is still a misunderstood dish. Stephen and I thought it was time to offer an authentic and enlightening haggis experience. That it is on a working sheep farm, showing the source of our quality ingredients, is really exciting”
Talented chef and co-founder of the Haggis Experience, Stephen Brown knows his neeps from his tatties too.
He explains, “Nothing beats the thrill of tasting a homemade haggis. Because you see it being made, you really enjoy all the sensational flavours.”
Neil Christison, Regional Director at VisitScotland, said: “Scotland’s larder is a key ingredient for creating a memorable Scottish tourism experience with research showing that the majority of visitors, both international and domestic, seek out locally sourced produce. As we encourage Scots to explore what’s on their doorstep, it’s also a chance to rediscover our own culture, history and heritage. We wish Lee and Stephen every success with the Haggis Experience which is a welcome and unique addition to tourism in the Stirling area.”
All The Haggis Experience guests will receive a collection of Lee and Stephen’s favourite haggis recipes.
